IFAIR is pleased to announce the second edition of its Interregional EU-ASEAN Perspectives Dialogue, taking place between 14 and 28 March 2015. The project will bring together young researchers from Europe and Southeast Asia in online workshops to discuss current issues under the theme ‘Building global partnerships – Which role for the EU and ASEAN?’.

The inaugural EU–ASEAN Perspectives in 2013 was a resounding success – it created a community of young researchers from Europe and Southeast Asia, and generated a stimulating discussion which resulted in the policy paper Unlocking the Potential of Interregionalism. This edition of the IFAIR project will focus on the question how the EU and ASEAN can cooperate on issues of importance on the global governance agenda. Participants from the EU and ASEAN will focus on 4 policy fields of Interregional cooperation that can shape global issues: development, the international financial architecture, trade and climate change.

The Dialogue will consist of kick-off meeting, 4 breakout sessions – one for each policy field – and a concluding plenary debate, all held via Skype conference technology (March 2015). The insights and ideas resulting from the dialogue will be published by IFAIR and presented at a live event in a European capital in June 2015.

The event is supported by a range of high-profile researchers, practitioners and organizations from Europe and Southeast Asia. It is under the patronage of Mr. Ranieri Sabatucci, Head of Asia and Pacific Department of the European External Action Service, European Commission and Prof. Tanja A. Börzel, Jean Monnet Chair and Director of the Centre for European Integration, Free University Berlin.

Who can apply?

We encourage applications from graduate students and recently graduated researchers, as well as young practitioners in EU-ASEAN relations or the 4 policy areas. Applicants should ideally be from an EU or ASEAN member country; have a background in International Relations or disciplines related to the 4 policy fields (e.g. economics, international finance, trade, law, environment); and have excellent working knowledge of English, the official language of the dialogue.

How to apply?

Please fill in the application form from the event website and send it to Kilian.Spandler@ifair.eu, together with a CV of 1 page maximum. The deadline for application is 31 December 2014. You will receive a confirmation of your acceptance until 11 January 2015.

To receive detailed and up-to-date information about the upcoming dialogue, as well as reports and outputs from past events, go to the event website on ifair.eu.
