Sakharov Debate 2011: Role of Women in Democratic Transition

Jerzey Bubak, President of the European Parliament, invites on behalf of the “Sakharov Prize Network” to the Sakharov Debate 2011 on the “Role of women in democratic transition” on 23rdNovember at the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, Brussels.

Welcome by Isabelle Durant, Vice-President of the European Parliament. Introductory remarks by Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament. Debate with the participation of the Sakharov Prize Laureates 1993-2009 and

  • Mona Eltahawy, Egyptian journalist
  • Lakshmi Puri, Deputy Executive Director, UN Women

followed by an interactive Question and Answer session with the audience.

Sakahrov prize laureates present: Hauwa Ibrahim, Wei Jing Sheng, Salih Mahmoud Osman, Alecsandr Milinkievic, Reporters without Borders, Zhanna Litvina – Belarus Association of Journalists,  Taslima Nasrin, Salima Ghezali, Leyla Zana, Ladies in White and Oslobodjenje.
