Alexander Rahr is Senior Advisor for Russia and GUS at Wintershall GmbH.
From 1994 to 2012, he worked for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik (DGAP), lastly as head of Berthold Beitz Center for Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Central Asia. In beforehand, he was analyst for the Rand Corporation in Santa Monica, USA. He wrote a biography of Mikhail Gorbachev and is the author of several books about Vladimir Putin. Rahr holds a M.A. in history and political science from Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München. He has been awarded a Federal Cross of Merit and a honorary professorship at Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).
